The President of the Confederation of African Football (CAF), Patrice Motsepe, has declined to confirm the final date for the upcoming 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (CAN) in Morocco, emphasizing that the competition could be the best of all.
Motsepe stated in a press conference in Abidjan that the current priority is the final between Ivory Coast and Nigeria, adding that the exact date for CAN 2025 has not yet been definitively determined. He expressed confidence in the success of the event and anticipates it to be the best edition.
Addressing the challenges related to organizing in 2025, Motsepe highlighted concurrent events but assured that CAN will proceed as planned. The Royal Moroccan Football Federation recently confirmed the tournament would take place in the summer of 2025, avoiding a conflict with the FIFA Club World Cup scheduled in the United States in June and July. Motsepe also praised the increasing competitiveness of African teams, stating that the current CAN is the best in history.
He emphasized the commitment to eradicating corruption and racism in African football, using the sport as a means to promote peace. Motsepe concluded by emphasizing the improvement of skills for coaches, referees, and all stakeholders in African football to strengthen the continent's teams.
