On Monday April 8, the Israeli army carried out an operation in southern Lebanon, targeting a commander of Hezbollah, Ali Ahmad Hussein. The announcement of this action was made by the spokesperson of the Israeli army, Avichay Adraee, emphasizing that Hussein was a high-ranking official within Hezbollah, equivalent to a brigade commander. According to the Israeli army, Hussein was involved in the planning and execution of terrorist attacks against Israel from the Ramim Mountains region.
This operation comes amidst escalating tensions between Israel and Hezbollah, exacerbated by the recent hostilities between Israel and the Palestinian Hamas movement in the Gaza Strip. Exchange of fire between the Israeli army and Hezbollah has become commonplace lately, fueling fears of a wider escalation in the region.
Hezbollah has confirmed the death of Ali Ahmad Hussein, also known as Abbas Jaafar, without specifying the exact location of the attack. Lebanese security sources stated that two other Hezbollah fighters were also killed in the Israeli operation.
For several months now, Israel has been intensifying its strikes in Lebanon, aiming to weaken Hezbollah and counter its activities, including rocket launches towards Israeli territory. This escalation in tensions jeopardizes the stability of the already fragile region.
