Elon Musk's New Achievement: Controlling a Computer with Thoughts through Neuralink

Elon Musk, founder of Neuralink, announces a major success in the field of neurotechnology. The first Neuralink patient, who received a brain chip last January, can now move a computer mouse cursor with their thoughts. 


The billionaire stated that the patient is recovering well after the chip implantation, with positive neuronal effects. Elon Musk shared this information during a discussion on X Spaces, specifying that the patient can not only move the mouse but also perform more complex actions, such as holding down a button.

The implantation process involves inserting 64 flexible threads into a part of the brain controlling the intention of movement. These extremely thin threads are implanted by a robot, allowing the implant to record and transmit brain signals to an application that decodes them to interpret movements.

Neuralink's flagship product, called Telepathy, aims to provide intuitive control over electronic devices such as phones and computers, simply through thoughts. Musk emphasizes that the initial target users are those who have lost the use of their limbs, promising significant advances in communication and interaction for these individuals.

Elon Musk's announcement has generated great interest, but some challenges remain. Neuralink still needs regulatory approval for broader adoption of this technology. Other companies, such as Synchron, have also made progress in the field of brain-computer interfaces, highlighting competition and concurrent advancements.

Neuralink aims to use these implants to connect human brains to computers, offering revolutionary prospects for paralyzed or communication-impaired individuals. However, caution is advised as Elon Musk has provided few details and no concrete evidence of the operation's results.
